Evolvence Capital, SBI Investment Leads $20mn Round In Captain Fresh

B2B fish and seafood company Captain Fresh raised USD 20 million in an extended series C round led by Japan-based SBI Investment and Evolvence Capital.

SBI Investment is the latest to invest in the Bengaluru-based startup. SBI Investment is the venture capital arm of SBI Holdings, a Japanese internet-based financial conglomerate.

The company has raised around USD USD 77.4 million including the latest tranches of funding. In March this year it had raised maiden tranche of about USD 50 million. The recent round values the company at USD 500 million.

Apart from Evolence Capital, other existing investors who participated included Accel, Matrix Partners India, Prosus Ventures, and Tiger Global Management. The fresh capital will be used to fuel the company’s plans in Europe and the United States, it said in a statement.

The company also appointed Basola Valles as CEO for its Europe business. Having joined the firm in June, Valles previously served as Senior Vice President of Strategic Customer Partner for Salesforce in Southeastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (SEMEA) region. Other companies she has been a part of include DIA Group, Prosegur, ING, Aegon Seguros, Amazon, and McKinsey & Company.
